MCPS Mental Health & Crisis Support
To help students in a time of crisis, each MCPS school has a student support team consisting of a school counselor(s), a school psychologist, a pupil personnel worker, and a school nurse. Some schools have an assigned ESOL transition counselor as part of the student support team. During a crisis, ESOL transition counselors will also support students in schools with large ESOL populations. Following an individual or school-wide crisis, the team provides the necessary support, care and interventions needed to help students, families and staff feel safe, secure and available for learning. They play a key role in ensuring those affected can return to their academic focus as quickly as possible.
In addition to the formal training related to their professions, team members are trained to support students and schools during and after a crisis using a model developed in collaboration with the MCPS Employee Assistance Program, the Montgomery County Crisis Center, and EveryMind.
If you have a concern about your child, please contact any member of the student services team for assistance.
